New Arrivals | A Peace Treaty Fall 2011

Posted on September 30th, 2011

A PEACE TREATY is an evolving collection aimed at creating ethically-produced, artisan-level accessories and apparel for the luxury fashion marketplace.

For F/W 2011 A PEACE TREATY presents a collection of whimsical cashmere prints and weaves — a result of APT turning to the France of Les Trente Glorieuses. The Glorious Thirty — a period following the end of the second world war during which France’s fashion, film and art industries experienced rapid growth and innovation — provided a break with the traditional paradigm. Artists engaged with the political and social upheaval surrounding them and an invisible revolution was seen through the aesthetic of that era from the plastic arts to the films of La Nouvelle Vague. In a collection of playful prints and bright patterns, APT channels this period of prosperity and optimism.

Evoking this thirty-year spirit of youth and innovation, APT once again travelled to the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. Here, Neplai artisans, in their workshops, were engaged to re-enliven the skill and precision of tradtional hand-craftsmanship passed down through generations. Using the shedding hairs of mountain goats, these artisans separate and hand-weave the finest and silkiest hairs into the vibrant visual patterns A PEACE TREATY has created. Artisans also hand-carve patterns into screens used to hand-print APT’s fanciful prints onto the softest of cashmere.
