Take It For Granted

Posted by Nicole on February 9th, 2010

Fresh off Monday night’s shout-out on eTalk, the crew from Granted Clothing took over LYNNsteven for a photoshoot supporting their fall/winter 2010 collection. Granted Owners Minoru and Ai spent the morning taking advantage of the unique design of the boutique to capture their fabulous creations for the coming season.

Getting Ready

Granted Clothing is a hand knit brand started by siblings Ai, Minoru and Mika. Although the brand is relatively new, the company itself has been around since 1978 when it was established by their parents.

Granted designs and crafts premium knits with a contemporary/urban flare, all locally here in Vancouver. They use various types of wool including pure new wool, merino wool and a new premium type called possum blend — possum fibres blended into merino wool.

Hamming it up

Granted’s first set of collections — debuting in 2007 — show ironic images, bold colours and original styles. Their specialty is a technique called intarsia knitting where pictures or blocks of colour are designed into the garment.

In a time when everything is mass produced without much thought and care, Granted takes pride in hand knitting each of their garments using renewable materials. Even their buttons and zipper pulls are made from reclaimed wood found around BC forests.

Two of this season’s most popular items — the Lumber Jack Vest and Deer Love Toque — can be found at LYNNsteven.
