Our won­der­ful archi­tects Mcfar­lane Green + Big­gar (MGB) picked up two of the six awards handed out at the 37th Annual Interior Design Com­petion held by the Inter­na­tional Interior Design Asso­ci­ation.

MGB won for both LYNNsteven and the Ren­nie Gal­lery + Offices at Wing Sang, which is just up Car­rall Street at 51 East Pender.

Win­ning for two pro­jects out of the 300 from around the world that were nom­in­ated speaks to MGB’s vis­ion, pro­fes­sion­al­ism and skill.  Con­grat­u­la­tions MGB!

After what seems like an etern­ity of look­ing for the per­fect space to set up shop, I am thrilled to call 225 Car­rall Street Lynn Steven’s new home. After nine months of look­ing, this space came to me through a series of events that all unfol­ded within a couple of days. It is amaz­ing the people you meet who want to help you out. I owe a huge thanks to two people; I hope you know who you are. They both believe in my busi­ness and that means a lot.

Many people may remem­ber this space as the Hunt & Gather boutique at the corner of Car­rall and Blood Alley, how­ever 225 Car­rall has a rich, some­times sor­did his­tory dat­ing back much longer than that. Built in 1887, The Bodega Hotel was home to the Bodega Saloon, Vancouver’s first “gentlemen’s club” and later where Joe For­tes once worked as a bar­tender. When you walk past the space, take a look inside and you can still see the ori­ginal floor­ing, includ­ing the hotel’s name spelled out in the mosaic tile, which we plan to keep of course!

We have just begun design­ing the space. I am work­ing with an amaz­ing team headed by Michael Green of McFar­lane Green Big­gar Archi­tects, based in North Van­couver. They just recently won Archi­tects of the Year at the West­ern Liv­ing Design Awards. They are an incred­ibly tal­en­ted group, and I’m con­fid­ent the store will be some­thing the likes of which you have never seen in Vancouver.
