JOSA tulum is a lifestyle clothing brand that is inspired by the calm beaches of Tulum and the sophisticated, chic style of New York City.

In 2009, Joanne Salt bid farewell to the hectic New York photography industry and headed down south to Tulum Mexico to start a new chapter with her newborn son, Luca. It was there in Tulum that Joanne met her friend and trusted business partner, Ana Cabello. A transplant from Monterrey Mexico, Ana has been living in Tulum for 12 years now and also owns the popular boutique in Tulum town, called Suwus. Together they collaborated to form JOSA, and the first boutique, located on the hotel property (of Posada Margherita), was officially opened.

Their idea was simple – to take their favorite vintage kaftans and transform them into contemporary, sexy dresses for the beach that were chic enough for the evening as well. The JOSA dress reflects the simple, carefree Tulum lifestyle, yet also possesses the fashionable sophistication of the New York scene.

With a style and shape that is complementary to all body types, everyone will find a JOSA dress style that fits to perfection. The goal and concept of JOSA is to provide women with dresses that can be tossed into a beach bag in the morning and are there on hand throughout the day as a cover-up, yet are stylish and sexy enough to take you into the evening hours for a late cocktail or a glamorous dinner – the perfect go-to dress for all occasions.

JOSA tulum is inspired and designed for a contemporary, elegant woman who is fashionable and naturally comfortable both on the beach and in the city.

New Arrivals | A Peace Treaty

Posted by on April 11th, 2011

Each season, A PEACE TREATY travels to a particular region and seeks out local village artisans to re-define an accessory, creating limited edition pieces in style unique colorways.

For the S/S 2011 season A PEACE TREATY presents ADIRE, an ode to the almost extinct resist dye processes of Yorube Adire textile making. Traditionally crafted by women artisans and entrepreneurs, Yoruba Adire textiles were indigo dyed cloths popular in Nigeria and parts of Western Africa. Challenged by the disappearance of these masterpieces, A PEACE TREATY traveled to one of the few existing places with a thriving indigo resist dye and hand block-printing industry — Rajasthan, India — to recreate these treasures of the past.

The making of ADIRE involved commissioning artisans to carve special wood blocks used for printing the negative form intrinsic to resist dye techniques. The result is a collection of luscious silks and silky cottons dyed on with natural and eco-friendly inks and dyes exhibiting varying processes like dabu and indigo dyeing, wood block-printing, and hand-weaving culminating in vibrant West African inspired designs.

New Line | Winter Kate

Posted by on March 7th, 2011

With the success of House of Harlow 1960 jewelry, designer Nicole Richie launched Winter Kate in 2010. A combination of her daughter’s middle names, Winter Kate clothing reflects Nicole’s love of ethereal, flowing fashion in timeless prints and shapes. Dresses, blouses, and kimono tops are accented with bohemian details like fringe, embroidery, and macramé, and are easily dressed up or down. These feminine, romantic, easy-to-wear pieces channel Nicole’s signature mix of vintage and classic.

We are super excited to have Winter Kate at the shop and have just received our first delivery.

New from A Peace Treaty — The THAR Collection

Posted by on February 2nd, 2011

The THAR Collection continues to herald ancient disappearing traditions in metal-smithing. Inspired by the eastern jaunts of disco icons from the 1970’s as well as the Thar gypsies’ ancient civilization, THAR showcases antique finishings, carvings and engravings, bezel bone pieces, protective rings and amulets with hidden openings.

A PEACE TREATY employs desert artisan families in Rajasthan to craft these hand-carved, gold-plated brass pieces and enables a revival of centuries-old recycled materials and sustainable techinques including the use of discarded camel bone.

This is just a sample of the pieces we received at the boutique.

Cali Dreaming

Posted by on November 25th, 2010

For those of you lucky enough to be heading somewhere hot & tropical over the Holidays we just received our first delivery of swimwear called Cali Dreaming.

CALi DREAMiNG draws inspiration from natural and nude pigments, along with sand speckled skin tones bathing in the golden hues of the California sunshine. The collection is made up of timeless styles in varying tones, with an emphasis on seamless silhouettes and textures. The natural colors of the swimsuits blend with the wearer’s own skin tones, making the suits subtly disappear. Due to the understated and simplistic nature of each style, the line can also double as undergarments. Their swimsuits place emphasis on a woman’s own natural curves by allowing the wearer to appear nearly naked at first glance.

CELEBRATE BEING NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL, SUN KISSED AND HAPPY!

A little about Shereen…

Shereen was born in Canada, but spent many of her impressionable years growing up in Brazil. Living in one of the world’s most vibrant cultures, she was exposed to its beautiful art, architecture and design on daily basis. Brazil is still with her today and provides a wealth of inspiration and reference along with her extensive travels around the globe.

5 rings of oxidized sterling silver. Can be worn together or separately. 3/4″ diameter medallion

Her love of fashion led to a 20 year career working for various high-profile brands and the eventual launch of her own in 2007. Shereen de Rousseau – the brand is still young, but in its short life has gained acclaim from the fashion media and a loyal following from stylish people throughout North America.

Shereen’s design philosophy is modern with an eclectic nod to the past that continually feels fresh and unexpected. Mixing iconic images and symbols, she reinterprets them with her own refined sensibilities and techniques to create pieces with a distinctly timeless feel. Shereen de Rousseau is for anyone that appreciates classic style, but seeks to express their creativity and individuality through the jewellery they wear.
